Years ago my sister told me to save my wall phone, you know, not cordless. I'm glad I did. I plugged it in and had phone service. I was stuck in one room, but felt better knowing I had access for emergencies. Everyone should have battery operated smoke detectors, not just hard wired. Also, it is a good idea to have solar lights outside and extras to bring inside for these power outages.
